Gongyo is a daily companion for Nichiren Buddhist practice. It keeps Hoben-pon, Juryo-hon, silent prayers, and daimoku in one place so you can sit, read, and return to the same words each morning and evening.

You can preview one complete Gongyo and silent-prayers sitting each calendar day. Saving personal prayers, saving reflection notes, editing silent prayers, recommended prayers, kanji, reminders, and additional sittings the same day continue with Pro.

This app is an independent project for personal practice. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any Buddhist organization.

How to use the app

Gongyo — Read Hoben-pon and Juryo-hon. Begin a sitting, continue to daimoku, then silent prayers.
Prayers — Follow the silent prayers. With Pro, edit them, add personal prayers, and open recommended prayers.
Notes — Read reflections. Saving a new note or keeping edits requires Pro.
Settings — Text size, dark mode, kanji, reminders, restore purchase, and legal links.

Common questions

What can I do before subscribing?
You can preview one Gongyo and silent-prayers sitting per day, adjust text size, use dark mode, and use the daimoku timer during that sitting. After that sitting, further sessions the same day require Pro.

What does Pro include?
Unlimited Gongyo and silent prayers every day; kanji beside the romanized liturgy; recommended prayers; saving and editing personal prayers; saving reflection notes; morning and evening reminders; and editing silent prayer text. The paywall always shows the current plans and prices for your region.

Are text size and dark mode part of Pro?
No. Text size and dark mode are available without a subscription. Kanji is a Pro reading option.

How do I restore a purchase?
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchase, or open the paywall and tap Restore Purchase. Use the same Apple ID you used to buy.

How do I set reminders?
In Settings, turn on Daily Reminders and choose morning and evening times. This requires Pro. If you decline notification permission, reminders stay off and the rest of the app still works.

The app isn’t responding. What can I try?

Fully close the app and reopen it.
Restart your device.
Update iOS if an update is available.
Reinstall the app, then tap Restore Purchase.

Subscriptions & Purchases

Pro is sold as auto-renewing subscriptions through the App Store:

Weekly — auto-renewing weekly subscription
Yearly — auto-renewing yearly subscription

The price for your region, including tax where applicable, is shown on the paywall before you confirm. Do not rely on example prices from older pages or other apps.

If you previously bought lifetime access with this Apple ID, tap Restore Purchase. Lifetime is not offered on the current paywall.

Auto-renewing subscription terms

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
You can manage or cancel in your App Store account settings after purchase.
If an introductory offer is available for your account, it will be shown in the app. It converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.

All billing and refunds are handled by Apple.

Where data is stored

Prayers, notes, and preferences are stored on your device. We do not operate an account system or our own application servers.
If you are signed into iCloud, personal prayers may sync through Apple CloudKit, and a small set of prayer texts and display settings may sync through Apple iCloud Key-Value Store. That sync uses Apple’s iCloud service, not a server we operate.
Purchase status is processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat only to verify subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and purchase events. We do not receive your payment card details.
This app does not send your prayers, notes, or other content to a generative AI service.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:

Apple, for App Store purchases, iCloud/CloudKit sync, and optional diagnostics you choose to share
RevenueCat, only to verify in-app purchase entitlements
Legal authorities when required by law

Your choices

Because most content lives on your device, you can delete prayers and notes in the app, or remove the app. Purchase history is managed through your Apple ID.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do.

Terms of Use (EULA)

By downloading or using Gongyo, you agree to these terms and to the Apple Standard EULA.

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms.

Weekly and yearly Pro subscriptions auto-renew until canceled, as described above. All billing is processed by Apple. Refunds, if any, are handled by Apple.

You retain rights to personal prayers and notes you create. You are responsible for that content.

The app and included materials are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer the app except as permitted by law.

The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app.

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Applicable local consumer protections remain in force.
